Business Cards [Matt Collings]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183281

A networking event is not a networking event unless lots of business cards are exchanged is it?
Although the vast majority of business people still prefer the traditional paper business card the e-card is without question growing in popularity.
When you consider that most folk will take the business card details and copy the information into their smart phones and tablets it does make sense the traditional card is in decline.
There are numerous apps. that'll make it easy to exchange information with someone. Simply whip out your phone open the app and the information automatically exchanges. Simple. Or is it?
Personally I think the e-card is like speed dating or decafinated coffee. Socially acceptable but not quite right. I read recently that 'the e-card is a better option than leaving a networking event with hundreds of cards and not remembering the people who gave them to you!' If the above comment rings true then I'd say you need to brush up on your networking skills.

Make Money Online Writing eBooks [Eddington Pindura]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183282

There are tons of ways to make money online. One of the best, long term ways is by writing eBooks. If you enjoy writing and you are good at it, then why not consider writing an eBook? Not sure what you'd write on? Well the topics are endless. Write on a subject that you have expertise in and start selling.

The traditional method of writing a book and finding a publisher is consuming and it can take a long time for your book to reach your target audience. An eBook offers far more flexibility. Since an eBook is a digital book you can easily publish yourself, advertise and sell online, or sell through sites like Amazon.

The internet offers you a global market, which means you have a market that is far reaching and readily available. Let's look at how you can make money by writing an electronic book or eBook.

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183290

I'm In Hong Kong for the next week, working with a couple of clients (not that the travel prospects look great out of my office window right now). It's my first time out there, so it would be good to hear about anybody's recent experiences.

Any suggestions for places to go, sights to see, people to meet?

Eczema [Durwin Banks]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183292

HIGH BARN OILS ECZEMA BLOG:

Recent research from Southampton General Hospital reinforced evidence that eczema, which afflicts 1 in 5 children and 1 in 12 adults in the UK, is passed on through parents.

That's no great surprise.

It's long been known that eczema is partly, if not solely related to diet - and in particular, I believe, to the fats in food.

Fats are fundamental building blocks of life - and essential for creating new life, which is why it's so important to eat the right food if you're contemplating starting a family,

As a potential mum or dad, what you eat will be passed on to your child. Diet is the quickest way to change basic structures in the body (it is my understanding that four generations of poor eating is all it takes to alter your family's DNA), so you owe it not just to your children, but your grandchildren to think carefully about your food.

Stop tumble drying problems in your head! [Damian Mark Smyth]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183294

Freedom from old thinking is as easy as stopping the tumble dryer or remembering the joke

Tumble Dry

There was a great post on Facebook today about a wise man who told a joke on stage. The audience laughed, so he told the joke again. But this time less people in the audience laughed. So he told it again and again. Then he said: "You can't laugh at the same joke again and again, so why do you keep crying over the same thing again and again?"

Tax bills and time to pay [Mahmood Reza]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183296

Tax bills and related payments on account need to be settled in full before 31-Jan-13 if penalties, interest and recovery action is to be avoided. It is quite likely that a number of taxpayers will be in a situation where they will be unable to pay that in full.

If you find yourself in that situation then there is a time to pay facility that HMRC may agree to, you need to contact them before 31-Jan-13 if you wish to apply for this facility. Please note that this at the discretion of HMRC and they will consider a number of variables before deciding.

Further information can be found at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/payinghmrc/problems/bpps.htm ,

Advice going forward is that you need to put funds away separately on a regular basis to take care of this eventuality, for example 15% to 20% for every £1,000 invoiced - the 15% to 20% is a guide and is determined by your tax to profit ratio.

En wat gaan we doen als het op is? [Fred Rutgers]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183298

StartUps #5: startups succeed despite the training programmes [Robert Craven]

Successful businesses appear to succeed despite what training programmes might be on offer.

This suggests that start-up programmes add little real value apart from helping to create life-style businesses.

How Twitter can drive Business [Damian Donlon]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183301

Twitter poses a particularly interesting platform for marketers but its often difficult to find real life success stories of how some small to medium sized businesses have used Twitter to their advantage.

For companies with bigger budgets Absolute Radio gave away £250 every hour for 24 hours to winners tweeting what was playing on the station using the #nowplaying hashtag, which was promoted using paid ads. The campaign was a huge success as the Hashtag drove 8.5 million website impressions on 76,000 mentions. Cost per engagement: £0.04p and more importantly Absolute Radio mobile and Radio Player listeners up 7% on day of competition.

BEWARE OF POISON IN YOUR SUPPLEMENTS [Shiroko Sokitch]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183302

I was sitting in my office with a new client who was showing me her bag of supplements. As I dug into her bag, the first supplement I pulled out was a popular brand of multivitamin. Without looking at the label, I already knew what it would say - a list of vitamins, their quality- and various other poisonous ingredients that most people aren't informed about. Ingredients like ethylene glycol (anti-freeze), titanium dioxide (a white color dye) carnauba wax (undigestible), red dye number 5 (may be cancer causing), and magnesium stearate (prevents pills from sticking in machine). Magnesium stearate isn't necessarily poisonous but in high quantities may prevent absorption of the vitamins

My general conclusion when it comes to supplements and minerals is: If you aren't buying good quality products, don't take the generic.

Are You Doing Enough IPA? [Leigh Ashton]

http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=183303

Doing the Right Thing?

Cast your mind back a few days...

You started back at your desk after the Christmas break 100% recharged and ready for action. "Increasing Sales" as your full intent.

You were ready to concentrate on the big stuff and not get bogged down in detail. You'd made some lofty 2013 goals and were ready to conquer the world.

Then reality took over.

Too many emails. Too many projects. Too much work - not enough time.
No doubt about it, choosing work priorities over a given day, week, month can be challenging.
Let me introduce you to a couple of concepts that really help me and I think they'll help you too.

1) "Income...Producing...Activity" (IPA)
