In praise of effort [Andrew Priestley]

Recently, I was chatting with Sam Carpenter who wrote the US best selling book Work the System.
If you haven't read it do so. (You can find an affiliate link on my website www.andrewpriestley.com/resources or go to Amazon.)

We were chatting about how stuff gets done and sorry to say, plain old effort is still a prerequisite for success in most things.

When my son was 14 he wanted a portable TV for his bedroom. He wanted me to buy it for him but I suggested that if he worked for it himself he would get an immense sense of satisfaction from achieving this goal.

He went out and got a job at McDonalds and racked burgers and fries but a month or so later came home with the TV.

I coach people worldwide and a lot of my clients have problems because they expect the result to show up without much effort.

Sam and I were saying, "They want the medal but don't want to run the race."

He shares my concern.

"People are very lazy. And they resent having to apply themsleves."

As ecademy becomes SunZu live in a few hours, I wanted to explore this subject:
"A strong personal brand has a reputation of meaning what they say!" seen on Sunil Bali's post.
I want to ask you this open question on this, my first post on SunZu:

Do we get our message right?

When we feel stale and reach a plateau, it generally means we have arrived at a natural place in our brand cycle. I thought I'd explore this phase and list some positive triggers to help move things to another level:

1. Sift through time wasters, energy drainer's contacts and circles. Make a choice to limit non-supportive interactions that don't energize you.

2. Integrate activities. Socialise with connections that are like-minded. Find people in your company who share common interests and develop your career around the people and activities you love.

Recnetly I upgraded my membership to a business social network and found to my delight a brand new leader, a vison bigger than before and an exciting future. I like the prospect of a bigger, bold and stunning goal.

I've been in business some time and for much longer on this planet, I even own a bus pass! but apart from all the personal stuff, I'm delighted times are moving forward and inovation has taken hold, a fresh thinking is upon us and the possibility of a brighter future is alive and well. Welcome SunZu.
